Personally, I didn't like the city. It's not very attractive and not very welcoming, even though several neighboring towns are great. I didn't find anyone who enjoyed partying, even though that's supposed to be part of the exchange program. People go to the bar until 11 PM or midnight and then go home. Finally, the classes are interesting, but the facilities are really bad, and there are lots of buildings scattered around, making it easy to get lost.
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
Belgium quarter can be good
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
Finance courses are good and interesting but Marketing courses is like a econometrics course

WG gesucht
Would you recommend it?
I had troubles for the beginning of my erasmus for the accomodation. I should have a shared appartment but was insalubrious (impossible to live in). I used housing anywhere to find it( this is a platform where landlords can show their places). BUT be careful on this website you have real offers but also fake offers. And mine was a fake one : "HABYT" (i stayed 1 week in a hotel before finding a solution). At the end, thanks to resourcefulness and contacts, i lived during my whole erasmus into a german family. But one advice, use WG gesucht to find accomodation -> safest Or use housinganywhere but check online if the landlord is correct. Also, in my opinion, do not have a flat into the city center. They all have one in the nearby suburb. And it is also where the German lives. The city center is almost dedicated to tourists. And the best places to chill out are in the nearby suburb
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
I can only say that Boothaus is very nice for techno music.
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
Some classes are way more difficult and need more works than others. Eg i was following the courses in supply chain and was really intense. Most of the time bullshits courses are really easy and the exams are really simple. But for interesting courses, that's the opposite. Also i recommend you to take more classes that you must follow (you can do it and just in case if you failed one or many). Be aware that the german method on learning are always based on formulas. You learned theoritical thingy based on formulas. And the exam is only 1 hour. It is really short for the amount of works we have to produce. My advice, and advice from german, is to base your time on the number of points the question is worth (most of the time the exam is graded out of 60 points)
Do you have some tips?
The campus is really nice. The registration a nightmare. But i would pick the same uni because i learned so much.
Best trips to do?
You will get a deutshland semester ticket. It's a pass for having bikes for free and taking the "TER" also for free only in Germany. The "TGV" remains to your charge. But you are closed to many nice cities around. Even to go to luxembourg or Maastricht is really easy
What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Cologne?
Not many things finally. German is part of Europe so do what you already do in France and you will see the difference beetwen French and German.
Enjoy your exchange ; )
