Where was it located?
In the historic center which is according to me the best place to live in Riga because close to everything
How can someone find this place?
a contact
Would you recommend it?
As I was able to say, the place is really great, the apartment is not bad but I unfortunately came across some terrible roommates, and since the apartment is poorly insulated, it was quite annoying. I would recommend living there, but at least with a friend.
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
The social life there is not very hectic, but if we make good friends, we can still find fun things to do. As a nightclub, I recommend the Code Red. For the shot bars, all those in the center are the same. To go have a chill drink, the Cartel bar is cool and for the afternoon, it’s very nice to stroll in the mezza park.
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
One can choose between two programs and I advise not to take the one for finance because the one for marketing has very few courses and they are all very simple (sometimes level first year).
Do you have some tips?
Between this university and that of LU, I advise RISEBA because they do not pay attention to the presence in class and this kind of thing. Afterwards, I personally met some very good friends at this university but I know that there are many more students in LU as well as more choices at the course level. But if you are not there to go to class, it’s better to go to RISEBA because you will always end up meeting those from LU with other occasions.

What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Riga?
Life is frankly calm. You have to be ready to be cold and let it get dark late but it’s really hot. In addition, it allows to make lots of trips that we would never do while discovering Eastern Europe. I recommend going to all the Baltic countries and also to visit other cities in Latvia like Jurmala. Life is cheaper than in France but it’s not CHEAP either. And we must absolutely be careful that we can no longer buy alcohol after 8 PM on weekdays and 6 PM on weekends

I highly recommend this place! The location is great it’s right across from some faculties and just a 10-minute walk from the main universities. It’s also not far from the city center. The residence itself is very spacious, with lots of common areas, which makes it easy to meet people from different backgrounds. Finally, the rooms are very clean and modern; overall, a great experience!
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
There are also lots of great bars and nice cafés in Riga, which makes the city even more enjoyable to live in.

I went to Lapland with a student association based in Riga — it was such a cool experience! Definitely recommend if you're up for an unforgettable winter adventure.
What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Riga?
Riga is actually a really cool place to live, especially during the second semester — you get both snow and sunny days. There’s a beach nearby, fun activities on the lake when the weather is nice, shooting ranges, and some great hiking spots. The city also has lots of shopping malls, and you’ll never run out of bars and cafés to check out!

Alabar, valhalla, arcadia, First club

Do you have some tips?

What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Riga?

Best trips to do?
If you have some savings, you can organize a trip which will take you to nearby cities in Latvia. Do it before december because otherwise it will be really cold outside.
What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Riga?

The weather is overall cold but still enjoyable. There are a lot of fast food/restaurants where you can enjoy local meals (or traditional KFC/McDonald if you prefer).
Before buying a full price subscription to bus and tramways, you should first ask to your exchange university a paper that proves that you are an exchange student. You will pay far less for the same result :)

I’d recommend this residence for anyone coming to Riga who doesn’t know anyone yet. it’s a great place to meet people. I actually made friends while living there. You’re never really isolated since there are common areas, and there’s always a sense of community. The rooms are private studios, some with basic kitchen facilities, and some with a full cooking setup. I chose a studio without a stove, so I used the shared kitchen on my floor. Honestly, I didn’t meet too many people there when I wad cooking, which was perfect for me. Cleaning is done every two weeks in your room (its include in the price), so everything stays tidy without you losing your privacy. The residence also has a gym, spacious common areas, and generally attracts international students or people new to Riga. Everything is clean and well-maintained, and the staff is super responsive. The area is quiet, with a park nearby, and the price is reasonable. There’s also a similar option called Shed Co-Living, it has even more communal spaces, is more comfortable, and slightly pricier, but still worth considering if you want extra convenience and be even more closer to Riga Technical University and the center. One thing to keep in mind: depending on which campus you attend, it might be a bit of a commute. In summer or spring, electric scooters make it easy, but in winter, the cold and less frequent public transport can make it trickier. Still, overall, it’s a really good choice for students or newcomers looking for a comfortable, international, and social living environment.
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
There are plenty of nice bars in Riga, depending on what you’re looking for. Basically, if you go to the city center, you’ll find lots of options. Personally, I recommend Kiwi Bar for those who want to watch matches and have a good beer, it’s a Belgian bar. Then there’s Rock Café, very spacious, perfect for karaoke or having cocktails. For partying, there’s The Sinners, a bar/club popular with a lot of international students. And to stay updated on student events, follow their Instagram @esn_riga; they organize parties, outings, and activities to meet people.
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
Personally, my courses were assigned by my host university. Overall, the courses are pretty easy to follow and manageable as an international student. Nothing too complicated. The part that can be a bit tricky is group work, where you need to be organized to submit everything on time, because professors are quite strict about deadlines. One course I’d recommend is Startup Development. course mainly involves working in a group throughout the semester to build a startup. The workload isn’t huge, but you do need to prepare your project well with your group. Overall, it’s not difficult to pass with a good grade. In general, there’s no major difficulty in passing courses at the university I attended. One course that was a bit more challenging was European Policy. I found it tricky because the professor didn’t provide a lot of content, so preparing for the written exams was a bit harder.
Do you have some tips?
As for Riga Technical University, honestly, the registration process was super easy, it really wasn’t complicated at all. On top of that, the international student service is very responsive and answers quickly, which makes things much smoother. The campus itself is nice. To be fair, I didn’t spend a lot of time there since I didn’t have that many classes, but they do have really good coffee machines, and plenty of study spaces. The campus is spacious and comfortable, though of course it also depends on which campus you’re based at. Overall, I’d say the registration was straightforward, the facilities were good, and I’d probably choose the same university again since it also gave me the chance to make friends.
Best trips to do?
One of the main reasons I chose Riga is its location—it’s super easy and affordable to travel to nearby countries. For trips, I definitely recommend visiting Estonia and Lithuania. You can easily go by bus, and it’s really cheap; for example, I paid around 15–20 euros for a round trip to Lithuania. In general, traveling around the Baltic states and Eastern Europe is much more affordable compared to Western Europe. Another must is Sweden, especially Stockholm—I highly recommend it. Finland is also worth it, especially if you go when the weather is nice to enjoy the nature. Poland is just next door too. Honestly, I regret not being able to visit Russia, but of course, that’s not possible right now due to the political situation. So, my advice: travel as much as you can while you’re in Riga. Neighboring countries are often places you wouldn’t normally think of visiting, but they’re absolutely worth it.
What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Riga?
Live your best life in Riga, especially if you come like me during the second semester, the spring semester. I arrived in January, and let me tell you: bring gloves and a hat. Seriously, you cannot survive without gloves in Riga. Also, get a scarf and bundle up, because otherwise, you won’t make it through the cold. Another tip: since I wasn’t living in the city center (though I was still within Riga), I highly recommend budgeting for Bolt. Bolt will be your best friend in Riga. The good news is that it’s not expensive at all, super affordable. But definitely plan a small Bolt budget, especially for winter. If your campus and your accommodation are not close to each other, mine were 10 minutes away by car, you’ll end up using Bolt a lot when it’s freezing or when you’re just exhausted. And of course, at night after parties, Bolt is a lifesaver. If you come during spring or summer when the weather gets better, make sure to try the e-scooters or scooters. It’s honestly such a fun way to explore Riga and get around the city, especially around campus. I loved it. Another thing I recommend: get the store loyalty cards for Maxima and Rimi. You can register directly on your phone, and they give you big discounts on groceries. As I said before, Bolt is a must-have in Riga, but if you’re planning to use public transport, keep in mind that it doesn’t run as often as in Paris. So always check the schedules before going out, especially in winter, you do NOT want to be stuck waiting in the cold. There is app when you can pay your transport ticket with qrcode system in Riga (name : mobility). And finally, you absolutely need to follow the Erasmus Riga Instagram account (esn_riga). They organize tons of activities and even trips, which is a great way to meet people and enjoy your Erasmus experience to the fullest.

Yess for sure
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
Tallinas is a large area with lots of bars, clubs, and events in the same complex. Everything works together, you can order from anywhere and move around with it. It's free and has a large outdoor section. Otherwise, in Tom Bar you have the Ezitis and Piga chains, which are very inexpensive and excellent.
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
the AI class was horrible and strong
Do you have some tips?
The campus is nice, next door there is a large shopping center where you can eat cheaply and large outdoor spaces to eat outside
Best trips to do?
Starting from Riga I would say all of Lithuania and Estonia, with Tallinn which are great. Otherwise if you have the means, Krakow and Lapland which are incredible
What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Riga?
Meeting other Erasmus students is really important. It completely changes your stay, rather than staying with people from your own country. And I would say knowing how to drink and keeping up a fairly high pace of going out because it's a very festive city.
For cool evenings and events, follow the ESN and Lakaffen associations on Instagram. Their evenings are really great and very varied

Around 450€/month

Old Riga and New Centre

Facebook expats groups work amazing every time
Would you recommend it?
Lived in 3 apartments (exchanged in Riga for 1 year and a half), got scammed the first time (be careful with fake agencies, they scam you on utilities and never give back the deposit), but the two other appartements were amazing. You can have crazy flats for nothing. During my last semester, I used to live at Ganu street, my roommates and I had a full 2 floors apartment with 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with jacuzzi and sauna, balcony and all utilities included for 440€ per person.
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
Club that will always be full: Valhalla Best techno club: One One Best bar with cheap happy hour: Cartel Best coffee shop in town: Caffeine
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
I didn't really have the option with my classes option so cannot really suggest anything. But what I know is that RISEBA is very chill
Do you have some tips?
Campus was nice, and everything was accessible and easy to understand
Best trips to do?
You can travel everywhere around Latvia for super cheap. 20€ bus round trip for Tallinn or Vilnius. I would defo suggest to visit Eastern countries Poland, Hungary, Austria, Germany. The Nordic countries are also very cheap by flights and worth the visit (especially Stockholm). Finally, get in touch with your ESN organisation, they organise lapland trips every semester, it is expensive but they plan everything for you and truly amazing
What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Riga?
If you are coming for winter, YES, it will get very very cold, so grab and bring all your ski clothes, you will need them
I loved my life in Riga, but in my opinion, the friends that you will meet here are the most important tick to check. Riga can get depressing if you are by yourself, especially in winter. Don't get too shocked when you will notice that no one smiles at you or even say hello outside, this is normal to Latvians, because you need to earn these kind of acts from them.
