Would you recommend it?
It was well-located (5 min walk from the Jean-Talon Market, orange and blue lines of the metro, and buses that go to downtown/plateau/mile-end). I'd pick the same place, it was renovated just before my arrival.
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
The St-Laurent Blvd and the St-Denis St are where most bars and clubs are. The Date is a karaoke-bar in the Village, such a good vibe ! Many microbreweries to discover (Le Siboire, Dieu du Ciel!) You have to do Igloofest in february, Piknic Electronik (every week-ends from may to october), and just enjoy the city and the many events they propose.
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
Classes are not that hard, most are in French but some are in English too. You have 2 weeks once the semester has started to change your choice of classes so you can try different ones to see which you prefer.
Do you have some tips?
As an exchange student, I felt like there was not many event for me. They focus more on fully-enrolled students. You can still participate in everything, I just found it hard to make friends this way.
Best trips to do?
Enjoy Montreal, but there are so many national parks around the city. Go to a cottage for a week-end, there are so many ! If you want to really travel, New-York and Boston are only a 6 hour bus ride away ! But if you want to stay in Quebec, you can totally plan a road-trip to Lac St-Jean and Le Saguenay, Tadoussac (to see whales) or even Gaspésie (it's further but so worth it)
What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Montreal?
The weather is warm until mid-October, and then it starts to get cold but it's not as bad as everyone thinks. Yes it's cold but you can still do so many activities and enjoy your time here ! There will always be something to do during the week-ends
Try not to fall in a routine, and set yourself goals or write a bucket list so you know what you can do if you're ever bored (which you won't be!)

Plus, I was only with dirty people, but that depends on people !
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
I didn’t go to bars or clubs except for Club Privé because they host french rap themed nights and it was okay
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
I was in the Action culturelle programme and honestly I preferred my classes in France so I wouldn’t recommend any classes I had. However, there are many classes where you need to do a cultural project, and that could be fun (that was what my friends said)
Do you have some tips?
the campus was okay, i had classes on the metro floor almost all the time so i didint have to go out in the cold, which was so great !!
Best trips to do?
New York is only a 6h drive and you can go by bus which is not that expensive ! you take it at night and arrive early in the morning so you have plenty of time !!! You can also take the train to Quebec which is a very pretty city or to Ottawa and Toronto which are not that far from Montreal
What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Montreal?
there are not that much metro, so you might need to do some things by bus so make sure to choose a housing near your university or easily accessible

I could recommend this room because it is clean, modern and affordable for Montréal. But it is a bit far from the center by foot, so you need to take the metro.
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
I could recommend the bar "le clebard", "le bar darling", "le ptit caribou". I tend to live in Lille, Paris and Lisbon, so for me there is not a huge night life in Montréal, we tend to do party all the time at home with friends because people here go out only during weekends and in most of the clubs they are young people from 18 years old.
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
I did a graduate certificate in marketing so the lectures was good!
Do you have some tips?
Mcgill is a good university especially for your resume, it makes a real difference. But the registration and administration part is quite difficult because now you need a "permis d'étude" to study and remove the international student fees, so a big big process that takes time and money...
Best trips to do?
The best thing to live in Montréal is to rent a car with friends (very cheap here) and go explore all the towns in Quebec and Toronto to visit the Niagara Falls. I went also to New York, by bus, because it is quite close to Montréal and not expensive. We do a lot of weekend "chalet", just rent on Airbnb a big chalet with a jacuzzi with friends and when you are 8 it is affordable and not expensive.

Would you recommend it?
I wouldn't recommend this flat because I was with random citizen, and I think it's better to be near the university (Côte Des Neiges, Université de Montréal metro station, Outremont). I also recommend being in the center even if it's 30-40 minutes. I recommend visiting the place before going in. It's complicated to find a good flat in Montreal. Go with people you know or students that seem decent to never have issues.
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
I believe you should go to St-Laurent, there's many thing to do, near the Vieux-port is good. Depends on the vibe you're looking for. House music : Flyjin, La voûte (23-30 years old). Rap/HIp-hop : École Privée, Palazzo (younger audience like 18-22 years old). I recommend staying in Montreal during spring and especially summer, there's a lot of festivals, the vibe is immaculate!
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
If you're not expert in finance, i wouldn't recommend taking a class, some are easy but the majority is already advanced class, I'll recommend you to ask directly to students of HEC. Every other class about supply chain, marketing, international business is not too much work, but there's a lot of assignments at the end of the semester, so stay organized.
Do you have some tips?
The campus is good, the library is good to study. There's two buildings, 10 minutes walk to go from one to another. I would definitely go there again. The registration is easy and simple, you can always communicate by mail to the Exchange Program. I would say Visa is more work than registration in itself.
Best trips to do?
I would recommend going to New York, Chicago, Miami, Boston, Toronto, Cancun, Dominican Republic. (Few recommendations depending on what you like)
What do you absolutely need to know to live your best life in Montreal?
Transport is around 60 CAD a month and easier to get your card by asking HEC. It's quite expensive, but the city is safe. Need to pack warm clothes for the winter.
I don't have any other recommendations except to tell you to enjoy and do all the activities possible!

Yes, simple installation and good comfort.
What are some top bars, clubs, or events you recommend?
Depends on the quartier. Plateau, Mile-End, Petite Italie, Griffintown each have their own vibe. Clubs mostly downtown (Saint-Laurent, Sainte-Catherine). Big cultural festivals: Jazz Festival, Osheaga, Igloofest. Great parks to hang out: Parc La Fontaine, Mont-Royal.
Which classes do you recommend… or not?
Depends a lot on the profs and topics. Best to ask former students before choosing.
Do you have some tips?
Campus is pleasant, good atmosphere, easier to meet people if you join an association. Courses require personal work but manageable. Go to class, presence helps to follow and avoid delays.
Best trips to do?

The best advice always comes from locals, they know hidden gems that no guide shows.
