Taipei, c'est l'Asie de l'Est en mode facile : un métro nickel, des supérettes ouvertes 24h/24, une bouffe délicieuse et pas chère, et des gens parmi les plus sympas que tu rencontreras. Les grandes universités comme NTU et NCCU accueillent de gros contingents d'étudiants en échange, et la ville repose dans un écrin de montagnes vertes, avec sources chaudes et sentiers de rando à quelques minutes du centre. Les universités taïwanaises mélangent cours magistraux et recherche solide, et l'offre de cours en anglais s'élargit chaque année. NTU domine sur quasiment tout, NCCU est réputée pour les sciences sociales et la communication, NTNU pour l'éducation et l'étude du chinois, et Taiwan Tech pour l'ingénierie. La plupart proposent un cours de mandarin gratuit ou pas cher qu'il faut absolument suivre.

Inscris-toi aux cours de mandarin de ton université, même les bases changent le quotidien
Ça dépend entièrement de ton passeport, donc prends ce qui suit comme un repère, pas une règle absolue. La plupart des étudiants européens, britanniques, américains, canadiens et australiens ont 90 jours sans visa à l'arrivée, suffisant pour un truc d'été court, pas pour un semestre complet. Pour un vrai échange, tu demandes un visa de résident étudiant auprès du bureau TECO (Taipei Economic and Cultural Office) le plus proche avant de partir, avec la lettre d'admission envoyée par ton université d'accueil.
Une fois sur place, tu convertis ce visa en ARC (Alien Resident Certificate) au bureau d'immigration local dans les deux semaines, c'est ton sésame pour un compte bancaire, un forfait téléphonique et les allers-retours. Démarre tôt : les rendez-vous TECO et la légalisation des documents peuvent bouffer des semaines. Le bureau international de ton université d'accueil t'accompagnera pour presque tout.
Court séjour : 90 jours sans visa pour beaucoup de nationalités
Semestre complet : visa de résident étudiant via TECO avant ton départ
Après l'arrivée : conversion en ARC dans environ 15 jours
Les règles exactes dépendent de ton passeport, vérifie auprès de ton bureau TECO
Taipei est peut-être la meilleure ville de street food au monde : soupe de nouilles au bœuf, xiaolongbao, gua bao, poulet frit, et le bubble tea qui a été inventé ici. Les night markets comme Shilin, Raohe et Ningxia sont à la fois le dîner et le divertissement. Les supérettes sont une véritable institution : café, repas, paiement de factures et retrait de colis, 24h/24.
Fais le tour des night markets : Raohe pour les pepper buns, Ningxia pour les classiques, Shilin pour l'ampleur
Teste Din Tai Fung pour les xiaolongbao et n'importe quel stand de rue pour la soupe de nouilles au bœuf
7-Eleven et FamilyMart font café, repas chauds, distributeurs et retrait de colis 24h/24
Da'an est le quartier verdoyant et central des étudiants et des cafés, autour de NTU et Shida ; Xinyi est le centre-ville clinquant de Taipei 101 et des clubs ; Zhongshan et Datong mélangent ruelles anciennes et bars branchés ; et Wanhua (Ximending) est le quartier jeune du shopping et du cinéma. Beitou, au nord, est réputé pour ses sources chaudes.

Taipei est une base fantastique. Les ruelles éclairées aux lanternes de Jiufen et les lanternes célestes de Pingxi sont à environ une heure, le parc national de Yangmingshan est à ta porte, et Tamsui se trouve au bout de la ligne rouge du MRT. Le train à grande vitesse t'emmène à Taichung, Tainan et Kaohsiung en moins de deux heures pour les gros week-ends.
Prends le MRT puis un bus jusqu'à Jiufen et la ligne des lanternes célestes de Pingxi
Fais une rando à Yangmingshan ou prends le MRT jusqu'à Tamsui pour des couchers de soleil au bord de la rivière
Utilise le HSR (Taipei à Kaohsiung en environ 90 min) pour tes week-ends dans le sud
Quelques réflexes qui payent vite : garde toujours ta EasyCard sur toi, ne mange et ne bois jamais dans le MRT (c'est verbalisé), et retire tes chaussures en intérieur. La saison des typhons, en été et en automne, peut tout arrêter, et un jour de typhon veut dire pas cours. Et apprends un peu de mandarin, même quelques phrases ouvrent des portes.
Ne mange pas et ne bois pas dans le MRT, c'est une amende de 1 500 à 7 500 NT$
Surveille la météo pendant la saison des typhons, un jour de typhon annule les cours
Garde du cash pour les night markets et les petits stands, tout le monde ne prend pas la carte

I recommend it because of its closeness to the various buildings in the campus where you'll have classes. Because of that, I could sleep late most of the times. Plus, if you are lucky, you can make many great friends while you're living there.
The major downsides is that the dormitories are mostly really old and the common bathrooms weren't nice. Also, the university campus is kinda far from the city centre so, everytime we wanted to go out it would take us at least 40 mins to 1 hour to get to the well-known hangout places in the city.

I think the best club to dance was Babylon. It is on a rooftop super close to Taipei 101 so it really sets the mood.
Another good place to hangout is Maji Square. There, you can find many different bars and clubs where you can eat, chill with friends, have a chat, and dance.
If you'd like to go for a cool bar where you can have drinks and play card games and stuff like that, I recommend going to Another Brick. Plus, it is super international.

I highly recommend Cross-Cultural Communication: Global Understanding Project -> really cool, we had two different exchanges online with a Peruvian and an American universities. Super fun and great way to meet new people.
I don't recommend much Introduction to Literature I -> we had to do a LOT of projects outside of the usual midterm and final tests. If you don't like theatre and stuff like that I don't recommend it.

The campus was pretty cool, not too big and not too small. I recommend only choosing courses in English and, if you want to improve your Chinese, attend the Free Mandarin Evening Course provided by the university. If you want to get high grades and not fail, you need to have a REALLY good attendance record. The professors were nice and pretty chill most of the time. Registration was easy and the people at the International Student Office were nice and helpful.
I'd pick this uni again because I had a good time and the courses were pretty good but, if I had the chance to, I would have liked to attend a uni that's closer to the centre of Taipei.

There's many things to see around the Island, around the Taipei area too. I highly recommend going to the Yehliu Geopark, to Wulai, to the south and centre of the Island and, if you have the chance, travel outside too. I want on a trip to Thailand that will forever be one of my favourite memories from this exchange program.

Taipei is mostly really safe. The public transportation works great and the most important areas of the city are all well-connected. If you go out at night, just remember that the metro stops running after midnight so you'll need to call a taxi or an uber.

It is an apartment of 10 students so you can get lucky and become friends with them. I did not really but it was still a very friendly and respectful atmosphere. would recommend to check it out

Yes it was a great flat. Only issue, a bit far from the university locatif in Taoyuan. But if you want to enjoy nights and like great ambiance, stay in taipei instead of Taoyuan.

I think the agency is quite good. My landlord provided us with pillows and duvets, even though this isn't mandatory, and he's really attentive to our needs if there are any problems. The same goes for the agency staff.

It's really very easy, right in the centre of Taipei, where there's a nightclub called IA. All the foreign students gather in this area, and even the locals are there in large numbers. You'll find everything you need to have a good time.

n terms of safety, you can't do better than this, with as many restaurants as you want. Unfortunately, the architecture is more beautiful in France or Europe, and I found it to be quite crowded. The weather has been really mild so far (no need for a jumper, even though it's 8 December).

I'm allergic to peanuts, and it's not always labelled, so I got tricked and had to go to A&E. So for those of you with food allergies, always remember to carry your medication with you and always ask the waiters.

Globally, courses are not really interesting. I had business courses like : human ressources, management, social media marketing… I only like the fact that I just had courses from monday to wednesday.
