Il centro compatto ospita bar e caffè, e d'estate la vita si sposta sul lago alla spiaggia di Logarangen e sul lungomare di Ostra Hamnen. Qui trovi il tuo gruppo velocemente.

I did 2 courses, and it was not the best experience but not bad (there are some courses at 15 credits and others at 7.5 …). U will not study much in this exchange, trust me.

The campus is not incredible, you have to register to some things during the month of August, so be aware of it.
The university is cool with great people (that you meet for projects), but the level is not incredible and the university neither (but not bad at all !).

We are a 1h30 of Stockholm airport, so that we took a lot of plane to go to Denmark, Austria, Slovaquia, Latvia, Estonia, lettonia, Finland, Lapland and Sweden and Norway by car with a little road trip.
U are on the Nordic center of Europe which is a really good place to travel from.

As everywhere in Sweden, you will have only 5 hours of sun some days, so be ready of this.
Then, the city is not moving a lot during the week, it’s just on week ends where people around 20 go out in O’learys Friday night and Saturday night. Majority is 18 there but 20 to buy alcohol.
U can just buy a monthly plan for the bus in vasteras, and go everywhere easily. And you have the vasteras station that gives a lot of opportunities of train to go everywhere around Sweden

In the fall semester, it is not THAT cold there, but still cold (without snow until December). Life there is pretty expensive for transport, eating, alcohol, nightlife, it disappear really fast.
For less than 20e, you can go in Stockholm and come back in a day.

It was perfect! Brand-new apartments in a large residence for international students with a great atmosphere, a small gym and a sauna available by reservation, as well as free washing machines (also by reservation) and a convenience store on the ground floor of the building. At first glance, the building seems a bit far from the city center, but there’s a direct bus, and there’s a forest right nearby for running or other activities.

The two best bars: Lion Bar and O'Learys, with activities (bowling, billiards, karaoke, etc.)
The one and only nightclub: the Publik every Friday and Saturday (free before midnight)
Sports with the school several evenings a week (a different sport depending on the day (basketball, football, badminton) with free bowling after Wednesday evening sports.
Football stadium to watch matches and ice rinks with ice hockey matches. The ice rinks are open to the public but you must bring your own equipment.
There are also several sports centres, some of which are open 24 hours a day.
/!\ Alcohol is only sold (to those over 20) in state-owned shops, which are not always open and close early, especially on Saturdays (Systembolaget).
In bars, alcohol consumption is permitted from the age of 18.

I don't necessarily have any courses to recommend, as I mainly chose based on the days of the week so that I could have long weekends. I took: Main Macroeconomics, Basics of Microeconomics, Labour Economics, and Organisation and Management.

The campus is great, the university is large and modern with large lecture halls, a large library, and a restaurant/cafeteria with many activities, trips, sports, etc. I simply registered for courses through my school in France, with the option to change them if I didn't like them.

I was able to go on several trips and it was incredible. I went to Stockholm a lot on weekends and I love that city, there is so much to see. Then I went to Norway (Lillehammer and Oslo) by train from Västerås, then Finland (Helsinki and Turku) twice, and Estonia (Tallinn) for a day trip from Helsinki by ferry. I fell in love with Tallinn, which is really worth a visit! I also visited Swedish Lapland by night train from Stockholm (including Lulea and Gammelstad). And in Sweden, I went to Gothenburg, further south.
Things I didn't do but would have liked to include the Lofoten Islands, Denmark with Copenhagen, which is accessible by Flixbus, the fjords in Norway (e.g. Geiranger) and Bergen.
Otherwise, there are many lakes around Västerås that you can reach on foot or by train, offering plenty of opportunities for walks and swimming.

There are lots of foreigners, Italians, Spaniards, French, Dutch, and the Swedes are nice.
I loved my semester in Västerås, but partly because I made a lot of friends there, which is important, especially in winter when it gets dark at 3 p.m. and the weather isn't necessarily nice every day. Bring board games or things to keep you busy during this rather long period. And don't forget your vitamin D, warm clothes and your swimsuit for the lakes and saunas ;)
